An opportunity to test ourselves and our equipment prior to 'the main event' - a four-day full pannier tour in the region of Donnybrook, Boyup Brook and Nannup, covering about 300km and including a few good climbs.
The weather was great and although somewhat parched at the end of the long hot summer, the countryside was superb.
On Day 1 we looped through the Ferguson valley to the north of the 'Eco-Cabin' that we were staying in, covering about 81km before returning to our nest for a second night.
On Day 2 we followed the Donnybrook-Boyup Brook highway for about 64km, traversing forested countryside in very hot conditions. We arrived early afternoon and could enjoy a relaxing afternoon repast in the towns cafe before seeking out our B&B.
Day 3 from Boyup Brook to Nannup was the most demanding physically with several steep climbs but we were compensated with roaring downhill runs that followed. After a late morning coffeee in Bridgetown we continued through beautiful countryside, on generally good roads with little traffic, undulating up and down to reach our B&B in Nannup by mid afternoon.
Day 4 from Nannup back to the 'Eco-Cabin' near Donnybrook (where we had left our cars) followed various secondary roads and we were favoured with clear skies, a cooling breeze and beautiful countryside. We reached our goal well satisfied with our tour and are now fully primed for the start of our Europe tour in a few weeks time. Our enthusiasm is sky-high.
