Tue 4 - Sun 8 Feb 2014
A few days in Albany to plan and prepare for our much-anticipated European bike tour commencing in May. Although our general route in Switzerland and across France is agreed there remains lots to discuss and debate regarding the gear and equipment we should take with us.
As a test of our equipment - will it all fit? - a four day 'shake-down' pannier tour has been planned for early April in the region of Donnybrook, Boyup Brook and Nannup . This promises to be a good opportunity to enjoy the countryside in cooler weather and gauge our readiness for the 'big event'.
Serious Planning
Between the planning sessions there was plenty of time for some bike rides and an enjoyable, although demanding, 16km walk out to Bald Head (how appropriate). After a grey morning the sun made an appearance although the winds were strong all day. The views across King George Sound were superb. After a picnic lunch in a sheltered corner we stretched out on the rocky dome and surprised ourselves by all dozing off for a few minutes. Shows what a little exercise can do. By the time we returned to our startng point our muscles were complaining and for the next few days we were reminded of our adventures whenever we climbed or descended some stairs!
